They are an adorable breed of dog. The Yorkshire Terrier is a mix of the best of English terriers. These include the waterside terrier, the black and tan terrier, the paisley terrier and the Clydesdale terrier.

Many types of terriers were introduced to the United States in the 1800's, and the smaller version Yorkshire Terrier established
itself in the early 1900's.

These dogs are courageous, bold and confident. Despite their small size, they can be aggressive towrds other other animals, but are are also adventurous and fun loving canines.

These toy dog breed require plenty of exercise. Their small size means they can get much of this exercise indoors running around the house or apartment. It's also adviseable to take your Yorkie for walks outdoors as well, as they enjoy this. If you do, then you need to make sure they are on a leash to prevent them engaging with other small animals along the way.

This breed of dog is not suitable for outdoor living. They prefer to remain indoors with their owner and make good companions for humans. If, for some reason you have to leave your Yorkshire Terrior outside, make sure they have proper bedding and plenty of shelter.

Grooming requirements depends on how long the dogs hair is. There hair is naturally very long but you can change this to make it easier for grooming. Many owners trim their terriers, so they only have to brush their dog three or four times each week. Longer hair needs more attention.

A healthy Yorkie can live a long life of up to sixteen years, if they are properly cared for by their owners. The main health issue associated with these pets is patellar luxation and eye problems.
